What does drone/aerial photography mean?
Before now, the only way to get an aerial view of locations or events was to hire helicopter film crews at prices that were outside most budgets. Aerial shoots were, therefore, exclusively the realm of Hollywood and companies with deep pockets.
You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! With the imagery from a small aircraft above, you can gain a new perspective on the location of interest.
To make sure the perfect shot is captured, our professional drone photographers work in twos, with one person controlling the drone and the other controlling the camera, thus ensuring the perfect shots can be captured.
There is no limit to where aerial filming and photography can prove useful as it can be deployed literally anywhere aerial shots will add value; sporting events, concerts, construction projects, heritage sites, weddings.
Our aerial photography equipment
Here at AIM, DJI-manufactured drones are our preferred choice for all of our aerial projects. The Inspire 1 has a 4k broadcast quality camera that allows for dramatic shots in all scenarios. We are also able to cover every possible angle with the Inspire 1 as a result of the 360-degree gimble in place, which ensures camera stability.
Whether it is still image photography or film and video, the Inspire can capture the most breath-taking shots. Apart from the Inspire, we also have the highly ranked Mavic Pro. The model is also capable of capturing excellent stills and videos as a result of a 4K camera. With the gimble on this camera, we are able to take vertical pan shots.
The Mavic is a valuable tool in our arsenal because its portable nature and lightweight frame means it can be used in areas where the larger Inspire cannot perform. Each of the drones can stay overhead for around 20 minutes on one battery but we will have as many back up batteries as required for the scope of your project. We also have the Sony A7 camera which is excellent for the capture of smooth hand held shots.

What is aerial photography used for?
There is a long list of applications for which aerial photography is useful, from entertainment purposes such as film and TV, weddings, and sporting events to a variety of other applications such as cartography, real estate, and forestry applications. There are many other ways aerial photography can be used; all you have to do is think it and it can be done! One of the best parts about drone photography is images closer to the ground can be captured just as it is possible to take pictures from a height.
Drones have camera gimbleswhich have a stabilising effect, making them a suitable substitute for a steady-cam. Drone shots are now wildly popular in television programmes where they are used to capture some of the most fascinating shots that are used to vary the setting of a scene, show an object better, or highlight a point of view.
Laws governing aerial photography
The Civil Aviation Authority has laws for the flying and use of commercial drones. Aerial Image Masters always fly within the parameters of these laws and remain at the top level of professional and ethical boundaries.
The laws of the CAA demand that a drone must: remain within the pilot’s direct visual line of sight or VLOS be flown at a minimum distance of 150 metres away from places that are congested be within no more than 500 meters or 1,640ft of the pilot and not beyond 400ft above the ground be no closer than 50 metres or be directly above of any persons, buildings, vessels, or automobiles no matter the height, except in cases where the pilot controls those variables. Forget about remembering every single rule because the laws are for us to apply as we do what we do.
We know drone law like the back of our hand and are eager to have you walk us through your ideas so we can come to an agreement on how to achieve the most perfect footage for your project.
