What does drone/aerial photography mean?

Before now, the only way to get an aerial view of locations or events was to hire helicopter film crews at prices that were outside most budgets. This meant that only well-funded TV and film companies were able to afford aerial shoots.

You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! With the imagery from a small aircraft above, you can gain a new perspective on the location of interest.

Professional drone photographers and filmmakers like us normally have a two-person team per drone, comprised of a pilot and another person as camera operator in order to ensure the perfect shot is captured.

The possibilities for aerial filming and photography are endless, from filming a sports event or gala, to adding something unique to a festivity or heritage video – the sky really is the limit!

The AIM aerial photography system

The drones we use here at the AIM are DJI manufactured. With the 4K broadcast-level camera on the Inspire 1, we are able to record dramatic shots in all settings. We are also able to cover every possible angle with the Inspire 1 as a result of the 360-degree gimble in place, which ensures camera stability.

The Inspire is able to deliver excellent shots at all times whether you are looking for still photographs or video. The compact and durable Mavic Pro is another camera we use in addition to the Inspire 1. This drone is also fitted out with a 4K camera making it another excellent aerial still and video capture system. The gimble on this camera allows for vertical pan shots.

The Mavic comes in handy in tricky areas where the larger Inspire may not be able to perform well, thanks to its lightweight frame and portability. The battery backup on both drones allows 20-minutes of flight time and we always move with additional batteries to ensure that we can complete your project. We also have the Sony A7 camera and a gimble, for exceptional handheld shots on every project.

When is aerial photography needed?

There are many ways aerial photography has been found to be useful, from celebrations like weddings to entertainment and media, sporting events, real estate, cartography, forestry surveying. There are so many uses for aerial photography that the limit is really your own imagination! One benefit of drone photography is that not only is it possible to gain images from a height, but it is also possible to achieve low down pictures as well.

A drone can be a great alternative to a steady-cam as a result of its camera gimbles which provide a level of stability. In television and media, drones are used to achieve the most interesting shots from various angles to add a bit of variety to the setting of a scene, show viewers a particular point of view, or highlight an object.

Drone photography laws

The Civil Aviation Authority guides the commercial use and flying of drones with its laws. You can expect only the highest level of ethics and professionalism from Aerial Image Masters because we always maintain the limits specified by these laws.

The laws of the CAA demand that a drone must: be within a range where the pilot can easily see it, that is, his visual line of sight (VLOS) be flown at a minimum distance of 150 metres away from places that are congested be within no more than 500 meters or 1,640ft of the pilot and not beyond 400ft above the ground at no height, be flown directly above or as close as 50 metres to any property, vessels, vehicles, or persons if none of these are ‘under the pilot’s control’ We don’t expect our clients to know all the laws as well as we do, so you don’t have to bother about them as they are for us to guide our work.

You bet we are conversant enough in drone law to that you can trust us and we would love to discuss how we can go about making the best of your project.

Aerial photography clients / applications

There are too many drone photography applications to count. We have provided some examples of work we have done in the past, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us if there is something else you would lie us to work on:

The Property Market

is there a piece of real estate you are trying to sell? Would a comprehensive overview of its ground plan and size advance a sale? Regular photographs are great, but are not sufficient for giving potential buyers a good look at a building, but we have captured several buildings to produce images and footage that paint the most accurate picture of a property and its features.

You can demonstrate the size and shape of your property as well as outline exactly where the building lies in relation to its surroundings, or any outhouses or land you may have. We will deliver whatever you need, even if you want regular pictures of the interior in addition to area and overhead shots to impress potential buyers.

Letting your property to holiday renters

How do you convince holiday makers to rent your holiday let? It is compulsory to provide pictures of the interior of the rooms you are letting, but shouldn’t you consider that whoever will be renting your property might not be familiar with your area? One way to solve that problem is to show your property in all its glory with drone footage and images.

We were able to provide an explanatory visual solution in the form of a promotional video for Chez Mouret to help guests get a clear picture of the property’s layout and that of its environs.

Events & Music Videos

Filming your music video with drones is the solution you are looking for whether you want to shoot the entire video from a height, or only want to add some interesting variety to the video. Among the many top notch videos that have adopted the brilliant innovation of filming with drones is a new song by Red Sky July, a video that was filmed by Aerial Image Masters.

We shot the entire video using the drone and we were able to do a whole lot more than shoot from above as we also shot at eye level and close range. You don’t need a Ronin or steady-cam take hitch-free close-in shots once you have a drone because drones are very versatile. In case you are still not certain what a drone can do for your project, please feel free to reach out to us anytime and we’ll happily offer our expert advice.

Promotional Films

Based on the numerous promotional films we have created for many businesses, we have found that aerial drone photographs and videos are capable of helping businesses achieve a more professional look. One of our favourite clients who we worked with to produce a promotional video was Mega Camps.

Mega Camps is a company that loads kids with fun during their breaks from school with their exciting day activities such as a large slip’n’slide, a go-cart track, and numerous bouncy castles. The footage we captured allowed Mega Camps to clearly show the scope and scale of their business to customers – as well as adding an extra bit of pizazz to the activities they have on offer. We also worked with Boundless TV who wanted an aerial video of the giant manor house where they recorded their programme.
