What does drone/aerial photography mean?
In the past, you had to come up with massive helicopter film crew fees in order to capture an image of the ground below from the sky. This meant that only well-funded TV and film companies were able to afford aerial shoots.
You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! Aerial shots using a drone or light aircraft can provide a new perspective on any scene.
For professional drone photographers and filmmakers, the work must be split between a pilot and a camera operator for the best possible results to be achieved; each person must focus on one aspect of the job.
Aerial photography can be useful in a wide range of situations, from better aerial coverage at that local festival to a better view of the landscape during a construction project.
Our aerial photography equipment
At AIM we use DJI manufactured drones. The Inspire 1 allows us to record dramatic shots regardless of the situation due to the 4K broadcast-level camera attached to it. We are also able to cover every possible angle with the Inspire 1 as a result of the 360-degree gimble in place, which ensures camera stability.
Whether it is still image photography or film and video, the Inspire can capture the most breath-taking shots. Apart from the Inspire, we also have the highly ranked Mavic Pro. This drone is also fitted out with a 4K camera making it another excellent aerial still and video capture system. The gimble on this camera allows for vertical pan shots.
The lightweight and portable frame of the Mavic means that it can be used in challenging situations where the larger Inspire 1 may not be sufficiently manoeuvrable. The battery backup on both drones allows 20-minutes of flight time and we always move with additional batteries to ensure that we can complete your project. We also have the Sony A7 camera and a gimble, for exceptional handheld shots on every project.

In which scenarios is aerial photography required?
. From sporting events to film and TV, forestry surveying, real estate, building surveys and cartography, aerial photography has a wide array of applications, including of course, weddings. There is really no cap on it; there are endless ways that aerial photography can be used. One benefit of drone photography which you might be unaware of is it is perfect for taking pictures closer to the ground as well as pictures from a height.
With the camera gimbles that drones have, they have better stability and so can be used in place of a steady-cam. Think of all the camera shots you see captured from interesting angles in television programmes, many of them are taken using drones which help to emphasise an object, give more character to a scene, or highlight a point of view.
Laws governing aerial photography
Drones cannot be used indiscriminately as their use for commercial purposes is guided by the Civil Aviation Authority. You bet Aerial Image Masters follows these laws to the letter as we never exceed the boundaries provided by these laws.
The CAA’s laws specify that a drone has to: be within the VLOS (visual line of sight) of the pilot be flown at a minimum distance of 150 metres away from places that are congested be within no more than 500 meters or 1,640ft of the pilot and not beyond 400ft above the ground never be directly above any individuals, vessels, automobiles, or property, no matter the height, or as close as 50 metres to any of the aforementioned if they are not under the pilot’s control. You don’t have to worry about the rules as we as the professionals are there to apply them to our work.
Drone law is no problem for us and we are ready when you are to discuss what you have in mind for your project and how best to work so we end up with results you are satisfied with.
Clients and applications for drone aerial photography
There are too many drone photography applications to count. While we have included examples of projects we have worked on in the past, please let us know if there are any other projects you would like to complete:
