What is the meaning of aerial/drone photography?
In the past, you had to come up with massive helicopter film crew fees in order to capture an image of the ground below from the sky. The costly nature of such shoots meant that only well-funded TV and film companies were able to afford them.
You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! By using a drone or small aircraft, you can achieve unique angles on any scene.
For professional photographers and filmmakers, a pilot and a camera operator work together in a team to make sure they get the best aerial pictures and footage.
The possibilities for aerial filming and photography are endless, from filming a sports event or gala, to adding something unique to a festivity or heritage video – the sky really is the limit!
AIM aerial photography System
DJI manufactured drones are what we use most of the time here at AIM. With the 4K broadcast-level camera on the Inspire 1, we are able to record dramatic shots in all settings. With the 360-degree gimble on the Inspire 1 increasing stability, we are able to cover every possible angle without any loss of detail.
Whether it is still image photography or film and video, the Inspire can capture the most breath-taking shots. Apart from the Inspire, we also have the highly ranked Mavic Pro. This also has 4k enabled camera and can be used to capture incredible stills and video. Vertical shots are easy on theMavic due to the gimble attached to it.
The Mavic is a valuable tool in our arsenal because its portable nature and lightweight frame means it can be used in areas where the larger Inspire cannot perform. The battery backup on both drones allows 20-minutes of flight time and we always move with additional batteries to ensure that we can complete your project. For smooth handheld shots, we bring the Sony A7 camera with a quality gimble to make sure we do not miss out on anything during the shoot.

When is aerial photography needed?
There are many ways aerial photography has been found to be useful, from celebrations like weddings to entertainment and media, sporting events, real estate, cartography, forestry surveying. No matter what you would like to achieve with aerial photography, it is possible as there is really no limit to what you can do with it. One benefit of drone photography is that not only is it possible to gain images from a height, but it is also possible to achieve low down pictures as well.
Drones have camera gimbleswhich have a stabilising effect, making them a suitable substitute for a steady-cam. In television and media, drones are used to achieve the most interesting shots from various angles to add a bit of variety to the setting of a scene, show viewers a particular point of view, or highlight an object.
Laws governing aerial photography
The use and flying of commercial drones is governed by the Civil Aviation Authority. You bet Aerial Image Masters follows these laws to the letter as we never exceed the boundaries provided by these laws.
The CAA specifies that a drone must: remain within the pilot’s direct visual line of sight or VLOS be at least 150 meters away from congested areas not exceed 400ft above ground level and must remain within 500 meters (1,640ft) of the pilot and no more never be directly above any individuals, vessels, automobiles, or property, no matter the height, or as close as 50 metres to any of the aforementioned if they are not under the pilot’s control. Forget about remembering every single rule because the laws are for us to apply as we do what we do.
You bet we are conversant enough in drone law to that you can trust us and we would love to discuss how we can go about making the best of your project.
