How much does aerial photography cost?
Today, aerial photography and filming is affordable for commercial, filmmaking, industrial and heritage applications.
Our entry package here at Aerial Image Masters starts from £250 for a two-hour session and this covers risk-assessment, insurance and two drones.
We would love to discuss your project with you and develop an individual and bespoke price to match your requirements.
What is the meaning of aerial/drone photography?
Before now, the only way to get an aerial view of locations or events was to hire helicopter film crews at prices that were outside most budgets. The costly nature of such shoots meant that only well-funded TV and film companies were able to afford them.
Today, you can get the same aerial shots as the big Hollywood studios armed with just a drone fitted-out with high quality cameras, without paying over the odds. Aerial shots using a drone or light aircraft can provide a new perspective on any scene.
To make sure the perfect shot is captured, our professional drone photographers work in twos, with one person controlling the drone and the other controlling the camera, thus ensuring the perfect shots can be captured.
There are no limits to the application of aerial filming and photography as it can be deployed everywhere from sports venues to heritage sites.
Our aerial photography setup
DJI manufactured drones are what we use most of the time here at AIM. The Inspire 1 has a 4k broadcast quality camera that allows for dramatic shots in all scenarios. The camera also comes with a 360-degree gimble, which ensures the stability of the camera even when drone movement is unpredictable, allowing us to cover every possible angle with ease.
The Inspire is able to deliver excellent shots at all times whether you are looking for still photographs or video. Apart from the Inspire, we also have the highly ranked Mavic Pro. The model is also capable of capturing excellent stills and videos as a result of a 4K camera. With the gimble on this camera, we are able to take vertical pan shots.
The Mavic is a valuable tool in our arsenal because its portable nature and lightweight frame means it can be used in areas where the larger Inspire cannot perform. We can get up to 20 minutes of flight time on each of the drones but we always come prepared with a number of extra-batteriesfor the completion of each project. For the best hand held shooting results, we have the Sony A7 camera and a gimble to make sure we don’t miss out on any details over the course of the day.

In which scenarios is aerial photography required?
There is a nearly limitless number of applications for aerial photography, including forestry surveying, building surveys, cartography, real estate, film and TV, sporting events, and celebrations or events, particularly weddings. No matter what you would like to achieve with aerial photography, it is possible as there is really no limit to what you can do with it. A major advantage of aerial photography is low down photographs can be achieved as easily as aerial photographs.
Drones have camera gimbleswhich have a stabilising effect, making them a suitable substitute for a steady-cam. Most television programmes now use drone shots to capture those interesting angles that can really help to add to the setting of a scene, or highlight a particular object or point of view.
Laws of drone photography
To fulfil the need to regulate the use and flying of commercial drones, the Civil Aviation Authority has created laws. Aerial Image Masters always fly within the parameters of these laws and remain at the top level of professional and ethical boundaries.
According to the CAA, a drone has to: be within direct, unaided visual line of sight (VLOS) of the pilot be no less than 150 metres away from heavily populated parts not be higher than 400ft above the ground and not be more than 1,640ft or 500 metres from the pilot be no closer than 50 metres or be directly above of any persons, buildings, vessels, or automobiles no matter the height, except in cases where the pilot controls those variables. We don’t expect our clients to know all the laws as well as we do, so you don’t have to bother about them as they are for us to guide our work.
You bet we are conversant enough in drone law to that you can trust us and we would love to discuss how we can go about making the best of your project.
