What is the meaning of aerial/drone photography?
In the not too distant past, a costly filming crew in a helicopter was the only viable way to get quality aerial shots of locations and events. The costly nature of such shoots meant that only well-funded TV and film companies were able to afford them.
You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! By using a drone or small aircraft, you can achieve unique angles on any scene.
For professional drone photographers and filmmakers, the work must be split between a pilot and a camera operator for the best possible results to be achieved; each person must focus on one aspect of the job.
Aerial photography can be useful in a wide range of situations, from better aerial coverage at that local festival to a better view of the landscape during a construction project.
The AIM aerial photography system
At AIM we use DJI manufactured drones. With the DJI-Inspire 1, we can take dramatic shots in all scenarios due to the 4K state of the art camera attached. With the 360-degree gimble on the Inspire 1 increasing stability, we are able to cover every possible angle without any loss of detail.
The Inspire 1’s unique features are why we are able to provide quality shoot results on all kinds of projects. In addition to the Inspire, we use the compact and versatile Mavic Pro. This model is equally able to capture 4K-quality stills and videos. Vertical pan shots are easy on this drone due to the gimble.
The Mavic comes in handy in tricky areas where the larger Inspire may not be able to perform well, thanks to its lightweight frame and portability. Each of the drones can stay overhead for around 20 minutes on one battery but we will have as many back up batteries as required for the scope of your project. We also have the Sony A7 camera and a gimble, for exceptional handheld shots on every project.

In which scenarios is aerial photography required?
Aerial Photography has endless applications, from cartography to building surveys; film and tv to sporting events, weddings, real estate, and forestry surveying. There are so many uses for aerial photography that the limit is really your own imagination! Drone photography is not only good for taking pictures from higher altitudes, but also pictures for closer to the ground.
A drone can be a great alternative to a steady-cam as a result of its camera gimbles which provide a level of stability. Most television programmes now use drone shots to capture those interesting angles that can really help to add to the setting of a scene, or highlight a particular object or point of view.
Drone photography laws
The Civil Aviation Authority guides the commercial use and flying of drones with its laws. You bet Aerial Image Masters follows these laws to the letter as we never exceed the boundaries provided by these laws.
The CAA’s laws specify that a drone has to: be within a range where the pilot can easily see it, that is, his visual line of sight (VLOS) be at least 150 meters away from congested areas not exceed 400ft above ground level and must remain within 500 meters (1,640ft) of the pilot and no more not be directly overhead of (at any height) or within 50 meters of persons, vehicles, vessels and property unless those persons are ‘under the control of the pilot’ You don’t have to worry about the rules as we as the professionals are there to apply them to our work.
We know drone law like the back of our hand and are eager to have you walk us through your ideas so we can come to an agreement on how to achieve the most perfect footage for your project.
