What is the meaning of aerial/drone photography?

Before now, the only way to get an aerial view of locations or events was to hire helicopter film crews at prices that were outside most budgets. Aerial shoots were, therefore, exclusively the realm of Hollywood and companies with deep pockets.

You can enjoy the same aerial shots as the biggest film studios without paying over the odds thanks to small, high-quality-camera drones that are available today! Aerial shots using a drone or light aircraft can provide a new perspective on any scene.

To make sure the perfect shot is captured, our professional drone photographers work in twos, with one person controlling the drone and the other controlling the camera, thus ensuring the perfect shots can be captured.

When it comes to the use of aerial filming and photography, the opportunities are endless. From giving your wedding a unique feel to surveillance of areas of interest for wildlife photography, there are no limits.

The AIM aerial photography system

At AIM we use DJI manufactured drones. The Inspire 1 allows us to record dramatic shots regardless of the situation due to the 4K broadcast-level camera attached to it. The camera also comes with a 360-degree gimble, which ensures the stability of the camera even when drone movement is unpredictable, allowing us to cover every possible angle with ease.

We are able to deliver great shots on all still or video shoots due to the excellent features of the Inspire. Apart from the Inspire, we also have the highly ranked Mavic Pro. The model is also capable of capturing excellent stills and videos as a result of a 4K camera. The gimble on this camera allows for vertical pan shots.

The Mavic is a valuable tool in our arsenal because its portable nature and lightweight frame means it can be used in areas where the larger Inspire cannot perform. The battery backup on both drones allows 20-minutes of flight time and we always move with additional batteries to ensure that we can complete your project. We also have the Sony A7 camera which is excellent for the capture of smooth hand held shots.

What is aerial photography used for?

There is a long list of applications for which aerial photography is useful, from entertainment purposes such as film and TV, weddings, and sporting events to a variety of other applications such as cartography, real estate, and forestry applications. No matter what you would like to achieve with aerial photography, it is possible as there is really no limit to what you can do with it. One benefit of drone photography which you might be unaware of is it is perfect for taking pictures closer to the ground as well as pictures from a height.

A drone can be a great alternative to a steady-cam as a result of its camera gimbles which provide a level of stability. Think of all the camera shots you see captured from interesting angles in television programmes, many of them are taken using drones which help to emphasise an object, give more character to a scene, or highlight a point of view.

Laws governing aerial photography

To fulfil the need to regulate the use and flying of commercial drones, the Civil Aviation Authority has created laws. You bet Aerial Image Masters follows these laws to the letter as we never exceed the boundaries provided by these laws.

According to the CAA, a drone has to: be within a range where the pilot can easily see it, that is, his visual line of sight (VLOS) be 150 metres or more away from places with congestion be within no more than 500 meters or 1,640ft of the pilot and not beyond 400ft above the ground never be directly above any individuals, vessels, automobiles, or property, no matter the height, or as close as 50 metres to any of the aforementioned if they are not under the pilot’s control. We do our work professionally as we operate within all the laws, meaning you, as our client, don’t have to bother about knowing all the rules.

You bet we are conversant enough in drone law to that you can trust us and we would love to discuss how we can go about making the best of your project.

Drone photography applications / clients

There is no limit to the number of ways aerial photography can be applied. Here are just some of the projects that we have worked on, please contact us if you have any other projects in mind:

Attracting Property Buyers

Do you have a property you would like to sell? Would a comprehensive overview of its ground plan and size advance a sale? Many have come to us to help them film and photograph their properties as aerial photography is superior to standard photography and is better for providing potential customers with a better perspective of the building.

You can demonstrate the size and shape of your property as well as outline exactly where the building lies in relation to its surroundings, or any outhouses or land you may have. Take things up a notch when you use our package that lets you have regular interior images of the building with exterior images of the building itself and the surrounding area.

Vacation home to let

How do you show your holiday let in the best possible light to your renters? While you have to present standard interior pictures to potential renters, what do you do if they are entirely now to your locale or country? The best solution would be to add drone footage and pictures to portray your property in the best light.

In the promo video we created for Chez Mouret, the owners of the gates were provided with a tool with which to demonstrate the property’s layout in relation to the areas around.

Events & Music Videos

Shooting your video with a drone is the right choice if you would like to add a couple of interesting angles to your shoot and it also works just as great for shooting a whole video. With Red Sky July’s latest single under our belt, we at Aerial Image Masters are among those leading the movement of popular videos that have been shot using aerial filming.

Using our drone to film the entire video, we were able to shoot from above as well as at a close range and at eye level. The versatility of the drone means that it is not necessary to have a steady-cam or Ronin in order to gain incredibly smooth, close-in footage. You may not know how a drone could fit in with your video, however, if you call us we are happy to add in our expertise to offer suggestions and solutions.

Promo Films

Based on the numerous promotional films we have created for many businesses, we have found that aerial drone photographs and videos are capable of helping businesses achieve a more professional look. We enjoyed working with our clients at Mega Camps to produce their promotional film.

Their business is all about kids as they provide exciting day activities for children when they are on a school break, including loads of bouncy castles, a go-cart track, and a large slip’n’slide. Not only did the shots we took show precisely how large and wide their business is, but they also spiced things up a bit by adding a bit of glamour to the exciting activities they had for children. For Boundless TV, we were pleased to film the exterior of the gigantic manor house where they record their programme.
